Her family used to be rich and her little, adopted (SPOILED) sister was supposed to marry Mitsukuni Haninozuka's brother, but her sister was SUPER competitive and only wanted the best.
When she found out Mitsukuni was better at fighting, she refused to marry his brother. When she turned fifteen, she committed suicide and the Akari family couldn't join with the Haninozukas.

Haruhi's Sister
Who would have thought Haruhi had an older sister nothing like her. Where Haruhi is calm and caring shin is anxious and smothering. The poor girl has misophobia and hypochondria and is often convinced she's dying of some sort of illness or worried about her younger sister catching a disease or becoming unhealthy. Though when it came time for her sisters interview she did make a deal with the principle that she had free reign to come visit her sister whenever she wanted. He even gave her her own vip visitors pass so that she wouldn't get questioned about being there. Right now things are going good for the fugiokas at least until shin realizes she has no prospects for marriage and can't live with her father her whole life.
