I was quite positive she was aware of my presence, yet she still refused to glance up, even once, her eyes glued to a book that looked millions of years old. I could tell that she had read it over and over again due to the numerous dog tags and stains on each page, and to the speed she flipped the pages, almost as if she had every single word memorized. Her hair was the darkest possible black, her bangs swooped over her forehead, covering half of her left eyebrow, low enough to look nearly emo but ever so slightly high enough so you could see her piercing green eyes. She was beautiful, although she looked a bit beat up and unnaturally skinny. Her clothes looked as if she had worn them for ages, her big sweater was raggy and her skinny jeans had tons of itty bitty holes. Her feet were bare, blistered over with splotches of blood on her lower heels and in between her toes. I realized I had been staring at her for nearly five minutes, and without thinking, I opened my mouth and softly spoke the word "hi."
