When the United States is taken over by a rebellious organization known as Nightfall, all the electric power in the country is shut down, reserved only for the highest Nightfall officers. Everyone, including the children, are sent to labor camps and separated from everybody they know. But the strangest part is that they are also instructed to tell the officers if they see any sign of supernatural abilities.
Rachel Grace has these unnatural skills, and would be turned in immediately if anyone found out. She has always felt like a part of the background, but she suddenly finds herself joining a group of teenagers who also have the power, and together they begin to unravel the mysterious past behind Nightfall's leader and the reasons for their own abilities. But as their powers grow, they discover a factor that changes everything, and they must choose between saving the ones they love and destroying Nightfall's grip on their world.
