Thaldie is a badger from the great Mount Salamandastron, home of the badgers.  

However, she is currently banished from there, until she proves herself worthy of her legacy.  

Never the brightest of her bunch, Thaldie constantly fiddles with things, and tries to understand them.  

One day she was playing with a trinket of her grandfather's, and broke it in two, bringing great shame upon herself.  

This was no ordinary trinket, of course.
