Nobody has never taken Doomsday literally. They only guess the end is their own death, like all these past years, decades, centuries and millenniums.
But priests don't always have to be the best role model, and atheists can be perfectly better people than them.
Abingdon is a very little and faithful village...well, barring some exceptions.
