He had his life laid out in front of him like roads that are drawn on a map after his climb from being inconsequential. He had promised so many times to himself that he will never be beaten off this path.

But the fate's picture for him was fifty feet down in the darkness of the earth, he was to be clapped down from his heights. He was to watch himself trapped down on a cracked floor trying to recover his lost strength so that he could climb to the heights again or maybe, this time, the depths. One step at a time.
