My name is Olivia Dunstunes, and I just moved to a small apartment called "The Stepping Stone" in the Chinatown district in Seattle. I had no particular reason to move to the district except for the rent is cheap. A more typical reason as any. I 'm 23 years old and I am currently unemployed and living off my savings for college. I dropped out of high school in my senior year. I have no social life, nor many friends in Seattle, not counting my landlady, Miss Nuo, but even without a plan for the future, I do have a dream. I want to be an artist, but I also haven't decided whether it be musical or painting & photography. I've lived in Seattle for two years now, though I have no solid lifestyle, I'm not in debt either. Not yet anyway. Tonight I'm going to a party that Miss Nuo has invited me to. Supposedly, it's going to be a fabulously glamorous party, meant for her wealthy district partners and their friends. If you've read this so far, you know that I don't really have anything better to do.

When her bright and busy children learn that a priceless ruby bracelet has been stolen and a six-figure reward is being offered, they convince her to try to do what the police, museum security, and the best private investigators have failed to do. Working against them is a notorious thief who has met people from around the world, but who has never once encountered a woman like Melody Scott. When the sweet innocence of the Scott family clashes against criminal forces more dangerous than they ever imagined, Melody is all too aware that a mom's got to do what a mom's got to do to protect her family.
