There are mundanes and then there are others, known as purple bloods. They are an ancient race who have special gifts like controlling the elements or using magics. Only some get the rarest gift of controlling black and white magic. The shadow and the sun. Night and day. 
Fourteen year old Cassie thinks she's an average mundane but in the last week of her holidays, she has an unnatural experience which leads to a hidden secrets revealing. Her aunt whisks her away to Meredith Field academy where she must learn to control her newly found powers and struggle with her social life. And what will happen when the full force of her powers is revealed?
