He always hated having her protection, but at least he barely got it bad. Everything was normal until three kids came into the school, and the one with long black hair and piercing black eyes caught his attention.... 

Also, there is going to be a height difference between the two (Sirius is going to be taller), and Lily is Remus's cousin.

In which, Remus Lupin is a fresh-faced wallflower just out of college, supporting his community in miniature efforts, as to not get noticed. Sirius Black, maybe not as fresh-faced but still just out of college, is, let's say, a little bolder. He's happy to be noticed - even happier when it's the freckled boy that hides in the library. Disclaimer: my parents weren't even a twinkle in someone's eyes in the 70s. Historical accuracy isn't going to be my focus point; but I'll try my best.
