Could this really be an haunted house? The very thought made shivers crawl down my spine. Haunted houses aren't real. Are they? It was just ten o' clock and all noises from the neighboring town ceased. The stillness was terrible. I could have yelled with the horror of it. Even the crickets had ceased their chirping, all the world might have been dead. Then I must have felt drowsy, but could not say if I had dropped off to sleep. All I knew was that suddenly I was wide awake. What was that? I sat- up my hair bristling - my skin cold and clammy. Follow me to see more of this story. An eerie silence echoed through the house at the end of Yellow Brooke Street, the wind outside slammed toward the wooden walls making a whistle inside the house from the cracked windows; the front door made a thud each time it slammed toward the wall and the screams from the dead gave the house an uneasiness to it. I stood before the house, while my friends were excited to do the exact opposite of what our parents told us to; I was not. I trusted my mother when she told us to never get close to this place. She....I....... I was running through the thick branches, pushing the leaves out of my way with all my might. I had to get away. My long, bushy brown hair was getting hooked on every possible branch, making me push my hair in the back of my dress, just like I used to when I was forced to cook everyday for my loathsome 'parents'. Returning back to the real world, I had to stop otherwise I would black out. I took a few seconds to catch my breath silently, and to look around to see if she was there behind me. I was looking up at the tall, old tree when I heard a twig snap behind me. Just like in the horror films. I turned and ran in the same direction, not daring to look back and see her wretched face fixed on my body.
