In the southern realm of Altier Nashal, a kingdom of frozen seas and vast forests, a civil war between three rival factions sparks the beginning of a foretold doom. Ban Karst, paladin and scrivener, is the noble son of the Lord Regent and declared a traitor by all sides. Ban's betrothed is left to hold a kingdom together while he must contend with dragons, goddesses, and goblins. His failure has been ordained by fate, and his battle is lost before he can raise his blade. There is no one for him to turn to save for a pair of fugitives, a healer and an assassin.

Worse, she must work alongside him. Joshuan Krayson goes on the hunt. Demons and their thralls have worked in the shadows throughout history, and only a secret cabal of divine guardians has kept the Five Kingdoms from falling to ruin. All that stands in his way is the Teulite Horde led by his father, the Tiger King. Ban Karst leads the Arcane Knights into Melcia. In the homeland of the spirit callers, Shan Alee and a tumultuous alliance of fey races are met by the true power of House Akazewi. Ban is forced to decide which of the oaths he has given is most precious to him. His bond, his homeland, his fealty, or his heart. Enfri the Yora is hailed and feared as the Dragon Empress. Overwhelmed by the path fate has taken her, Enfri goes back to the beginning. In a simple cottage on the desert's edge, the sky woman of Sandharbor returns home. In the deep sands, secrets best left forgotten return.

Far to the north lies a land in black and white. A curse lies upon it, robbing its people of their courage, free will and emotion to lock them in three pendants in the hands of their leaders. Jolette has lived just south of that land for all thirteen years of her life. But never once has she seen one of its people-until the day a Colorless boy turns up in her village, carrying one of his people's most prized possessions: the pendant of Free Will. She quickly becomes his friend, but she has barely had time to get to know him and name him Edmian when the Colorless come for him. By sheer luck she and Edmian escape. But her village, with everyone she knows, is captured and taken to the Colorless Land. Left to their own devices, the two set out to rescue the villagers while outrunning their own pursuers. Aid comes from a secret prince trying to save his own family from the Colorless, as well as his warrior bride. And yet the clock keeps ticking. For the Colorless' magic is slowly destroying the villagers' humanity, and the Colorless People are preparing a war against all the world. What can two teenagers, a hidden royal, a military commander on leave, an old lady spirit, an elf and a dwarf possibly do against a power on the rise? And what about the two married women who were captured without their daughter? But sometimes the smallest individuals can change the course of history... COMPLETED 9-8-2019
