There was a time in history when we were all together. It was a time of peace, where people were accepted as they should be and countries never fought recklessly and without thought. But then: technology. We found ourselves in a place where technology was rapidly taking over our lives. People became addicted, obsessed, and others refused to touch the very things at all. So we separated. We made our respective ways, put up the Gate, stayed on our designated Sides. We blew out our candles as they turned off their lights, worked on our agriculture as they studied their sciences, gazed at the sun to tell the time as they stared down at their fancy new gadgets. And as time passed, our Side thrived. We became lively and green and loud, yet watched slowly through the bars of the Gate while our old companions grew dark and grey and sullen. But there was one boy who was not, and he somehow found his spot right next to me.
