Now that I think about it, I shouldn't have been surprised. My motivation for my bachelors degree had been to lessen gender inequality in sports. And now I'm the freaking 'cause Major League Poster-child for feminism. I mean, yeah I want my future daughters to be able to play any sport they love, but truthfully? At the end of the day, I just wanted to play baseball. I didn't want to care.
All I wanted was for people to stop asking if women Athletic Trainers were allowed in the locker room....

In his own very young words, he takes as much as he possibly can, and then makes incredibly clear in the clearest of places that he alone, with his team is going to Williamsport, and Dad isn't and certainly Mom isn't, either. Sooner's story plays out as a kid farther away from the far western Oklahoma Panhandle than he's ever been.
