Drake rejects Ellery as soon as he knows that she is his mate for reasons that are unknown to her and his wolf.
Ellery, still being the insecure teenage girl she is, assumed it was because she wasn't pretty enough or good enough for her Alpha mate and when she runs back home she comes across three rogues all of which got in unnoticed by the pack's guards until to late. Ellery is left to fend for herself against the rogues even though she has yet to shift and been to only one training session because her mate doesn't believe her when she tells him of what's happening through the pack mind link.
