What are some first steps to be taken when a loved one dies. Here is a to do list starting with securing a home that you need to act on as soon as possible; at least if you live in the United States, although the items might be applicable to other parts of the world as well. It is very difficult to go to the home of a parent who has died to discover it ransacked. Priceless items, in terms of sentimental value, may be missing. Bank accounts have been emptied and credit cards used. I hate when that happens to people so I developed this checklist for my clients, friends and me to use at that most difficult time when grief overtakes you and you might not be thinking clearly. If this helps you, I am glad.
