In the year 2142, a new epidemic is sweeping the nation. Scientists seem to think that it's the air pollution causing it, but no one can be sure. Amelia Fletcher, a feeble 19-year-old mechanic makes a living fixing malfunctioning robots. When she meets Kai, a messenger for his aunt, she can't help but feel a strange attraction to him. Along with her agoraphobia and her mechanical companion, Pip, she tries to decipher the human heart and brain, and find out what is causing this epidemic of madness.
