The world has been ravaged by an economic and ecological crisis. Uncontrollable fires roll through the world like waves annually. Few cities remain, one of these cities left to remain is known only as Angelica, built upon the ashes of the dead and fortified by high walls, the city had lived in peace for decades. Now, as the governing party becomes more and more corrupt the peace is shattered as others from outside the wall, in the ruins of the old world, fight to bring down the wall and return the pain inflicted upon them by the negligent church. Ezekiel Red, one of the few who dare to question the power and rule of the church, plans to bring the city and its citizens to his knees as he makes a grab for power. While Alice Nelson, an officer of the city's guard and protection service fights to stop the madman and keep the wall from falling. What will he risk in order bring revenge and who will he kill in order to let the flames lick at the heels of the Church?

A dystopian thriller that evolves into a violent sci-fi nightmare with hints of monster (very) dark romance. --------- Alice has a good life: a great job, a cozy, paid-off apartment, and a loving husband. She also has an oppressive government, a war-torn city, and general social decay around her, and what seems to be an alien invasion, though nobody is willing to admit it. You know, the kind of things that can really throw a wrench into a morning commute. She should have left a long time ago, but right or wrong, it's her country. What's the worst that could happen if she sticks to it? No, seriously, what's literally the worst?
