The UK Ministry of Occultism handles cases from all over the globe, cases dealing with things that go beyond the normal world. Demons, monsters, and ghosts are just the beginning of the horrors they deal with daily. Luckily, they have a secret weapon: Simon Grim. Simon fell victim to the notorious Crimson Killer, a serial killer with access to occult powers. He brought Simon back to life as a thrall, an undead servant. Simon managed to escape his grip but the killer remains out there. Simon hunts him down, solving various cases along the way with the help of his partner, Veronica. The Peculiar Cases of Simon Grim is a collection of short stories set in the Cain's Peak universe, each chapter being an isolated story.

It's been three months since Ava lost both her brother, Damon, and one of her best friends, Bonnie. Losing her brother felt like losing a part of herself, so she does everything she can to get her brother and Bonnie back. Since there's a magic border, she can't go home, so she got herself an apartment near Whitmore and even enrolled herself at college, because she wanted to live a somewhat normal life. She's studying medicine so she can be a doctor, something she's wanted since she was a kid. Once Damon is back, Ava's so happy, but she's sad that Bonnie sacrificed herself once again, so Ava and her friends try and find a way to bring Bonnie back. As Ava and Caroline's relationship grow stronger every day, Ava be's the shoulder for Caroline especially when her mother's dying, even to the point where Ava shuts off her humanity to save someone she loves. And in order for Ava to turn her humanity back, someone from her past, that she thought was dead, comes and triggers her emotions back on. The Demon of Saint-Eli
When a young devout woman seek out his help, the mysterious private investigator Simeon Engels knows that something peculiar is happening behind the masquerade of the town's most powerful man. But he will need to be careful... for justice can very easily be mistaken for bloodlust. The first ever short story of mine to earn a Mature filter (as it typically makes me uncomfortable to write dark and gritty stories), and, another first, one completely outside of the universes of my previous stories. It's completely standalone, with its own mythology and fantasy/realism rules, etc. Which made it even more so liberating, as I no longer needed to stick within an existing continuity in terms of what's possible and what's not. The Demon of Saint-Eli is the introduction (in an hopefully long collection of short stories) of an OC that I have come to love the concept for months: Simeon Engels, the mysterious private investigator that hides a greater secret than anyone could ever guess. At first wishing it to be a Victorian/film noir hybrid, I changed it instead to a steampunk setting, that allowed a greater range of what could be integrated in the story. Overall, I hope you enjoy this story. I hope to make it into a collection of stories revolving around the adventures and character development of Simeon Engels, and I hope that you will find him as interesting as I conceptualize him to be. 9th May 2021: this story is now part of a sale of art for charity.
