July has led a relatively normal life. She grew up in a peaceful orphanage on the edge of Portland, but everything changes when she wakes up in the a strange school in the middle of St. Louis, along with everyone else in her "sect."

She must learn to control her new powers of energy conversion and transformation before it's too late- when the Lenox comes. Struggling with everything from teenagehood to the constant threat of death lingering above her head, it seems impossible for her to win. Or is it?
