Orin sniffed the bitter air as a multitude of tangled scents punctured his lungs painfully. He sniffed again, though reluctant, searching frantically for one in particular. He lifted his head and perked his ears, hoping to see or hear something. Nothing. Nothing but a barren burnt out field. The smell of smoke felt distant to Orin as he was distracted with something far more grave. He sniffed the air again. Still nothing, but he could feel their presents. He looked back to his fellow wolf. They stood with ears perked, some watching him, and others looking past him for some kind of movement or sign that they were here. Could the necromancer be wrong? Could there have been a mistake in her foreseeing?
A twig snapped, jolting Orin back to reality. His ears rotated in all directions and eyes darted across the field, hopping to finally find something. Still nothing. He couldn’t see or hear anything. That’s when he knew there was something out there…
He sniffed again, taking in everything he could; the smell of smoke and ash, the smell of the living trees full of life just beyond the fire scared land, the smell of Orin’s comrades just behind his tail. He began to untangle the scents one by one, hoping to find unfamiliar life among the mix… Still nothing…
