This story was inspired by an idea that I found on social media. All credit goes to @misfitreindeer. This is what inspired the story: What if people's hair changed color based on their emotions. Marine used to feel. She used to feel so much. Her parents called her their little rainbow. But after sixteen years of having her heart broken and betrayed, time and time again. She feels nothing and now her hair is black. Always.

Utopia

Sometimes things don't come in big bangs and loud bursts. Sometimes things tiptoe by and you don't know they're happening until they've happened. She's started this story a hundred times in a hundred ways--it never seemed right. The truth is this: a woman, a girl, went to sleep and woke up somewhere else. And it broke her. Before, she was eighteen, she would not finish high school, and she had never been in love. After, she would be eighteen and a hundred years older, she still would not finish high school, and she would never not be in love again.
