The Untold Story

Human trafficking is an extensive yet often undiscussed problem in many large cities. Personally I am horrified and depressed that young girls are being controlled and having their entire lives wasted by manipulative pimps. Unfortunately the average age that females are becoming prostitutes has been continually shrinking. In fact, in a recent study the current average age is 14. That means that girls as young as 11 and 12 are being sold out illegally to older men with sick sexual desires. The story I am telling of a young girl who has no life left ahead of her is extremely important. One of the main points I want my readers to understand is that any kind of girl no matter their background or personality can become trapped by unfortunate consequence into the life of a prostitute. Another extremely important point of my story is drug addiction. 92% of females say they wish they could leave prostitution but can't for various reasons. One of the most common and disturbing of these reasons is heroine or other drug addiction. Once the pimps have the females working for them and reliant on them to satisfy their addictions, the girls have almost no way out.

Human trafficking has become an enormous industry and according to Laws.com it accounted for 58 billion dollars last year in revenue. As the industry continues to expand I feel it is extremely important to spread awareness on the topic. The more exposure the problem gets the easier it will become to provide safe houses, crisis intervention systems, and other specialized institutes to help the girls get back on their feet. Probably the most important idea that needs to get across to the readers is that prostitutes aren't criminals, they're victims.
