Maggie swans in and out of my house and my parents' bed like a cat, with a violent shock of red hair and fingertips yellowed from too many cigarettes. My parents told me never to trust anyone, but she is warm and round with cool hands that were made for me. They couldn't be right, not about someone like Maggie. Could they?

A short story I first wrote in 2011 but revisited recently and revised. The dual inspiration was Rod Stewart's song 'Maggie May' about a young man with an older lover and the hysteria surrounding communism during the Cold War. The story takes place on the 6th of August, the date in 1945 that the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, ultimately ending the Second World War but plunging citizens of both East and West into a Cold War that lasted until the 1990s. 
This is my very first submission to Wattpad so please be kind but don't hesitate to let me know what you think! I was very proud of this story when I first wrote it but it has evolved in a way that excites me as I get back into writing.Todos los derechos reservados

Disclaimer: i wrote this back in high school when i was highly mentally unstable, pulling all nighters, and over exerting myself in all sorts of ways. Scientist's experiments had gone wrong. They call them the "Stone Devils". They were escaping from the labs and into our world. Made of stone and all male. Winged creatures that come into the night. Steal and kill their prey. That's what she heard but she didn't believe it until a few nights ago. (kinda like the movie Warm Bodies)

She....I....... I was running through the thick branches, pushing the leaves out of my way with all my might. I had to get away. The wet, brown, ground made it easier for me to slip and let her red, chilling hands slip around my innocent, scarred body, not knowing where she would take me next. I was almost out of breath, but I had to keep running if I wanted to make it out of this forest alive. My red dress was getting torn to shreds, and my hands and feet had mud all over them. My long, bushy brown hair was getting hooked on every possible branch, making me push my hair in the back of my dress, just like I used to when I was forced to cook everyday for my loathsome 'parents'. Returning back to the real world, I had to stop otherwise I would black out. I took a few seconds to catch my breath silently, and to look around to see if she was there behind me. I was looking up at the tall, old tree when I heard a twig snap behind me. Just like in the horror films. I turned and ran in the same direction, not daring to look back and see her wretched face fixed on my body. I sprinted and sprinted, but slowed down when I saw I was heading to nowhere but a ragged cliff. The unknown would me known if I continued to run and jump. I stopped two metres away from the cliff and looked down to see a valley so far down. If I jump..... I die. If I let her take me..... the unfair horribleness awaits me. I had no choice. I jumped.
