Her parents protect her from the outside world, especially when she starts growing two tiny horns on her head. One night when her parents are out, her brother and her find a creature in their house. Not a boy, not a man. 

The creature takes them to his world where they are accepted for who they are. They also meet people such as Gerard Way and his family. The creature turns out to be Andy Biersack btw.
