"What are you looking up there for?" Joe jumped at the sound of Caspar's voice. What was Caspar doing at two in the morning?
"I'm counting the stars." Joe replied giving breathy laugh; he was still catching his breath from being startled, he didn't expect anyone to be up at this time.
"Why?" Caspar asked.
"They're aesthetic... But It also makes me feel I have a purpose. Without them, I have no reason to be here. I count them alone." Joe glared at the other boy sitting on his roof. He would rather be alone than have Caspar pestering him with questions. "They're free to do what they please, but me? No, thanks to my dad I'm here, trapped in London when I'd rather be in Wiltshire where I belong. No one else will count them, so I will."
"Well you don't need to be alone anymore." Caspar grabbed Joe's hand. Joe wanted to detest it but he just stared at their hands as Caspar intertwined them. "I just wanna see the stars with you." He then looked up to see Caspar had a warm smile on his lips.
Maybe Caspar wasn't that bad after all.
