During the budding season of spring many young griffins have emerged from their shells. Little Taliak is one such youngster, and like all of the other nestlings he has the keen desire to explore his mountain home and dreams of the day he can fly, hunt, and battle for the glory and honor of his Order. And yet, unlike other nestlings, Taliak has no nestmates to play with, no father, and, worst of all, his own mother is a wingless recluse. When these differences are brought to light Taliak finds himself under the sharp scrutiny of the Order and abruptly his world changes for the worst. Now, not only must he overcome the common struggles all nestlings face in their first year of life, but he must also fight to convince the Order of his worth, or else risk expulsion. Or worse, his very life.
