He knows as well as Alys that no human has ever flown on a dragon, since that honor is reserved for the Elkin, the dragons' favored race. But Peri is determined, and Alys is happy to follow his lead. After all, he's the only family she has; they were found by traders as babies, and adopted by an Elkin blacksmith and her human wife. As they turn fourteen, though, Alys starts to worry that Peri's obsession is running away with him. Will he go too far in trying to prove that they belong in Dragonia, despite their outcountry looks and their unnatural immunity to magic? It's particularly bad timing since war is brewing with neighboring country Huldhros, whose Duke has started a religious crusade against the dragons. What can Alys do to keep Peri from making a huge mistake?
