As she travels with and Indigo mer named Envidia as her guide, she begins to learn mor about her own hidden magic and the evil she is destined to overcome with eight other mers, one from each pod. However, when Velvet reaches the Indigo Pod and the place where her "training" is to take place, she can't help but feel that something is deeply wrong. The Indigo mermaid that Velvet trains with, Blair, is extremely strange and sets off many alarm bells for Velvet. Not to mention when Velvet becomes friends with another mer named Nelly, she begins to learn of rumors involving Envidia, rumors that make Velvet question the lines between loyalty and blind belief. When Velvet finally does discovers the dark secret that these mers are hiding, will she run? Or will she face danger head on and unlock the dormant magic within her?

When her sister's displeasure with her grows worse, Muriel seeks to avoid it. In a desperate attempt to do so she finds herself cave of the sea witch Minerva. Philip's kindness remains prominent in her mind when Minerva offers her a choice to be a human. Hesitantly she agrees, unaware of how different the human world from hers. Philip's bodyguard begins to catch on that Muriel is different and Percy and the king quickly become desperate to find her. My own version of "The Little Mermaid" by Hans Christian Andersen.
