It is a countdown. One by one, the youngest are weeded from the group. Our dates of expiration draw closer. Our danger increases, and terror only quickens the clock. One by one, we are exterminated.   My name is Samantha Hartley. I volunteered for an experiment when I was sixteen. I was told it would not be harmful, that it was merely a whim of a curious scientist. There were 20 of us who started, and only four of us survived. Me being one of them.   My therapist tells me this will help. Recounting the most harrowing year of my life will lighten the load, or something. That is full of crap, but whatever. I am supposed to resurface what I have been shoving down, recover what I have locked away. Acknowledging the fact that she is right the majority of the time, I decided to humor her with this.
