"Why didn't you tell me?" Leonard glanced over his shoulder, meeting the eyes of his soulmate. "You wanted me to tell you that you were fated to a criminal?" He turned to face her, a cold laugh escaping his lips. His eyes meeting hers. "You wanted me to tell you that you were fated to your brother's enemy- the man that kidnapped you!" He paused momentarily, composing himself. "No," She answered defiantly, standing firm, her eyes never leaving his. "I wanted you to tell me I was fated to you." "I'm a criminal," Leonard scoffed, pointing at himself. "I make a living robbing people and killing anyone who gets in our way." "You believe that being a thief sets us apart," She chuckled, shaking her head. "Being a criminal is who I am. I can't change that. I won't change that." He stood strong, ready to watch her walk away. "I am one of the most skilled assassins to have ever served in the League of Assassins." She took a step towards him, "I can kill a man, tear his heart out, and still look at myself in the mirror." "What does that have to do with anything?" He growled, taken aback by her words. He opened his mouth to argue, knowing full well that she would cut him off before he could speak. "I don't need you to change who you are. I just need to know you'll stand beside me regardless of what I've done." She stared deeply into his eyes, refusing to back down. "You deserve more than a criminal, Allen," he argued, frustrated. "That's all I am. Nothing more." "An assassin deserves more than a criminal?" She laughed. "I am a criminal- A murderer. How does that make me better than you?" Leonard furrowed his brow, stunned by her reaction. "We're the same Snart." She stated matter-of-factly. Closing the distance between them, she positioned herself in front of him. "What are you doing, Allen?" He was distracted by their proximity; he inhaled deeply, her scent filling his senses. "Facing the inevitable," She answered, her resolve unwavering. Excerpt- Ch. 17

When The Heart Sings by CrystalScherer

Power and money didn't really interest Serena, instead she wished for a life of peace and safety. Barely able to afford a bus pass, it was mere chance that she saw a man in handcuffs being escorted by police. And he saw her. Several groups wanted to control him to suit their own purposes, but he could not be controlled by force. He only wanted one thing - and it was her. I will be your heart, if you will be my shield. * * * Sneak Peek * * * I pitied the man, although with that many cops around him, he was likely quite dangerous. Who needed 30 police officers to supervise one guy who was likely in handcuffs and leg shackles? I absentmindedly watched the man walk down the gauntlet between the rows of officers. It was as if I couldn't look away. He paused and looked around. His brilliant glowing blue eyes seemed to meet mine across the vast distance. I couldn't even blink as his eyes seemed to hold mine. The trees of a park broke our locked gaze as the bus kept on driving. I took a deep breath, suddenly realizing that I had stopped breathing the moment our eyes had met. I had never seen such blue eyes before - and they glowed! A shiver ran through me. I had been too far away to even determine the color of the police officers' hair, let alone know the color of the man's eyes. My eyes watched the trees, hoping for a break in them so I could see the man again. I had no such luck. --------------------------------------------------- Please note that this story has nothing to do with any of my other stories. Featured by @Romance .Β·:*Β¨ΰΌΊ ΰΌ»Β¨*:Β·. "Why do you make these paper flowers?" He asked, looking at her through the mirror. "They don't wither like the real ones." She replied, aligning the entire bunch of paper flowers. "But they don't have the fragrance." He politely challenged her. He was a soldier. Chivalrous was his middle name. "These paper flowers, they stay with you for as long as you want. You don't really have to throw them away like people discard the real ones. They pluck them for the fragrance and colors. But once that fades, they throw it away." She said, finally looking up at him. "Not everyone!" He added almost immediately, taking one more step forward. It could be his height or his longer stride, or maybe the room was too small as it only took him two steps to reach her. "Yeah! Of course! Exceptions are there, like poets and people in love." She walked in a different direction, putting those flowers on the table. He rolled his eyes with a defeated sigh. She was a teacher. Arguing with her was as futile as making a sand castle on a seashore. "You know, gone is the era when people used to preserve the flowers of their loved ones. We don't have people like that anymore!" She said as she faced him. "We don't have that kind of love anymore." He said looking straight into her eyes. She held his gaze through the mirror for a while, trying to read through him. "I agree." Murmuring under her breath, she turned around. Taking a deep breath, watching her retreating figure, he brought out his favorite poetry book from the shelf. After he was sure she was not looking, he ruffled through the pages till he found a dried Hibiscus. The very same one which had fallen from her bag when he first saw her. With a small smile, he cautiously caressed the petals. He closed the book with a fond sigh and found her looking at him. She couldn't hold his gaze for long and looked down, crimson covering her cheeks. He shook his head with a chuckle.

AMBY AWARDS TOP PICK 2024❀️ I can only see half of his face, reflected in the mirror at the front of the bus, and part of that is obscured by the peak of the black company-branded cap he's wearing. But I can see enough to glean that there's a strong jaw covered in scruff. A wide mouth that looks like it would be prone to smiling. He's wearing glasses with trendy light tortoiseshell frames, and I can't quite discern the colour of his eyes from my position . . . but some weird intuition is telling me that they'll be hazel, and I wonder when my brain is going to catch up. Because I *know* him, don't I? I'm almost certain of it. And he seems to know me, too. Or at least he thinks he does. The way he's glancing over at me lets me in on that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mirren Shepherd has *many* pet peeves. Top of the list, though? Staycations . . . And surprises.
