"You....I k-know...You're not like the others....You're just like me...." He paused. He looked straight at me. Right in the eyes. My stomach clenched. Relax. He doesn't know what I did. He couldn't have seen. "I know...." His voice barely came to a whisper. "Austin!" The door opened. Jake poked his head inside. His always cheerful smile on his face. "Hey Austin what are you-" My friend stopped talking as soon as he saw the Infected. "Doing my job, Jake." I said. I stepped forward. "You know the rules of this institution. Haven't changed since we were 13. Your job as a caretaker belongs in The Room. My job as a nurse belongs to the assigned patient. Stay in your place." I shoved a finger in his face. "Got that," I said. He knows I'm just playing but I do this in front of the Infected to let them know that the workers are in charge. "Yes sir," he replied. We walked out the room smirking. The last thing I saw before walking out was the Infected black eyes staring right at me.
