Elizabeth is Ryans sister. Way before the zombie apocalypse Ryan had only one sister he cared about. Once the apocalypse happened their parenst became zombies and they had to kill them. One day Ryan says he's going to get food for them and never comes back. Elizabeth was turned into a zombie but little does she know Ryan is a zombie too.
