Luke Corvus. That's his name and he likes to read. On top of reading books. Luke likes to read people. Luke likes to poke and prod at people's minds. Seeing what makes different people tick. He's like a watch maker. Except all his watches are already built, and all he does is take them apart, and put them back together. Luke enjoys it. Seeing what each button on a watch does. The watch being a person and the buttons... The buttons differ from person to person. They can be topics, words, objects, colors. You name it. He's not a detective. He's a watch builder. That doesn't build watches. He's a book reader that reads people. At least... He thought he read people. Until she came into his life. Her. The variable. The Blank Book. The Broken Watch. He didn't understand her. Everything about her perplexed him. He felt odd. He found an unknown cog in the watch that is the world. And he would find out just how to read her. Even if it meant building a watch. Even if it meant writing a book.

I cut through my skin making an "x" on my wrist. "This is why I don't trust people... " I thought. "He doesn't understand the pain I go through, no one does." I cut through my skin again making a deeper cut as blood rushed down my arm. "Everyone I meet leaves me. He's just like all the others. He would stay if he cared. It's all my fault isn't it? I drove him away with all of my nonsense, carelessness, and stupidity." Negative thoughts rushed through my head as the blade ran through my skin one last time before I blacked out. I woke up in a hospital bed. Sitting in the chair next to me was the one and only: Luke. The one person I didn't want to see here. The one who caused this mess. "Baby, I was so worried about you! As soon as I got a call, I found the earliest plane back here. Are you ok? Baby tell me you're ok!" He choked between sobs. Maybe he wasn't as bad as I thought he was...
