The Queen’s Competition was every girl’s dream. The opportunity of a lifetime. Except for me. I am Cassandra Hyde and I, unlike every other girl in the kingdom, was not fawning over the gorgeous Prince Alec. My best friend Penelope, she was like me, but, unlike me, she wasn’t a part of the Queen’s Competition. There were only two spots and I happened to land myself in one of them. Lucky me! Note the sarcasm. The Queen’s Competition was almost like a fairy tale, a very real fairy tale. We got to visit the castle and take tea with the dignified nobles. We learned etiquette and, being from a poor family, the skills needed to become the queen. But how could a girl that doesn’t believe in fairy tale endings, get a happily ever after of her own?
