When Evalyn's house is burned down and her parents are killed in the fire she and her younger sister are sent to a distant relatives house. But while they are there Evelyn discovers something. Something dangerous.

She discovers the Shadows.

The Shadows are a group of demon-fighting immortals who are vanishing. They are slowly losing people to the darkness and to fear. Evalyn and her sister are part of this group, and her parents were part of the group before them.

The Shadows need help, and only Evalyn can give them the help that they need. But Evalyn won't help until she has gotten revenge on whoever or whatever burned her house and killed her parents.

But when Evalyn's sister disappears, Evalyn is forced to help the Shadows to get her back.

But when helping, she discovers something. Not every Shadow is happy. Some want to leave and start their own community. She begins to suspect something is going on.

Was her sister's disappearance just a crazy coincidence, or was it something more? Are the Shadows actually good, or are they just pretending? Should she join the rebel Shadows and start a new community?

She enlists the help of her best friend Derek, and along the way has some trouble with Troy, the most popular guy at school. He wants to stop her mission, and for more ways than one.

But not even that will stop her from taking back her sister. She will do whatever is necessary to reach her sister, and will even fight to the death if need be.

But all Evalyn knows is that somebody is hunting her family, and that somebody is close by. That somebody is from the Shadows.
