His coal eyes were hooded as he glared down at me, jaw tensing dangerously. Fear tingled at the base of my spine, but I stood my ground. Despite what he claimed, he wouldn't hurt me. Chewing my bottom lip, I tore my gaze away from his, the intensity of it beginning to make me question my motives. "You shouldn't be here, Ana." His tone was cold, dominating. I hesitated, kicking at the loose gravel at my feet. Purple strobe lights flashed from the entryway of the club at the other end of the small, dark parking lot. "I-" Sighing, I pressed my lips together, raising my hand to touch my forehead- a nervous habit that I'd developed in grade school. "I know that, but-" A buzzer sounded from the club, and the lights began to flash obscenely. My eyes closed, knowing and dreading what was to come. Backing away, Duke shrugged off the gray hoodie he was wearing leaving him standing in just his sweats and sneakers in front of me. "I have to go", he breathed. "Fuck, Ana, just go home before someone sees you." Before I knew what was happening, his bare back was disappearing through the smoky doorway, leaving me standing alone in the empty lot.
