In a dystopian future, magic runs wild while technology rules the world. After the second war with the Cretarians, the race of people who could wield magic and powerful abilities,  humans have retreated into Bound societies where they hide from the Cretarians. The humans have found a way to protect themselves from the power of the Cretarians and have put huge numbers of people in cities with the Boundary around them, to protect them. Within these Bound cities, Academies have been placed to train the youngest soldiers to be able to defeat the Cretarian threat once and for all.

Thackeray Swann, one of the brightest minds of his age, has been chosen to go beyond the Boundary to study the Cretarian world but what he gets is anything less than what he expected. Suddenly when his world is turned upside down, he is thrust into the ongoing battle between Light and Dark, a war that has been raging for centuries. Everything he has known has changed and with it his view on this Bound world. Maybe there is a chance for redemption when he meets Kida, the deadly but beautiful princess of the Cretarians who shows him the truth of the world and with it, the power of the Light. But the light is dying and only this rebellious soldier can save it.

Before the fall of Earth humanity built a great colony ship, ten thousand of the colonist left Earth for a hundred year journey to Gillespie. They came from all over the Earth leaving a planet knowing they would never see another in their lifetime. The Ark is a rotating cylinder the size of a large island with its own train system. It's divided into three main sections, the city, the framlands, and the Lowers. The people are divided into three groups as well, Uppers, Middles and Lowers. Uppers are made of elite scientist, Astro-crops, bureaucrats they made up about 3% of the population. The Middles are are the farmers, the guard, teachers, doctors, the food processors, clothes makers and of course the mechanical maintenance workers. They make-up the 97% of the 10,000 counted citizens. The lowers are criminals and children born to un-paired parents. They live separated from the middles and Upper. In lowers you work in water reclamation or in one of the fish farms that supply protein to the ship. In the year 2149 Dylan De Rovia is trying to wrap her head around the idea that in two year's she'll be paired. That they call marriage on the Ark. Pairing is good most who are paired do end-up staying together because while genetics play good part in determining a match so does personality. Some people choose to use spend this time having a good time with as many partners as possible. Dylan however, vowed that she would never fall in love with anyone before pairing. The universe had other plans however, when Dylan learns that she'll pair with an Upper named Kyive Sinclar life gets more complicated than ever. Falling in love is hard enough falling in love in space that the story.

People panicked and tried to survive for as long as they could. Some made it out of cities the others stayed. Our government fell and militias took control. The Monroe militia took over. Then one day he found electricity again. He used it for bad and soon conquered the whole world. Years later our world now runs on electricity again. The Monroe militia is still in power and they force teens to go into an academy to train as merciless killers. This is where I go. One question I always have in mind is, In a world where hope is the only thing we have, Can love exist in the middle of all this war?
