Pen looses her mom soon into the craziness, and is alone with her best friend Troy Martens.
After a mess in the woods, they loose each other.
Pen finds herself alone in a cabin for a day, till a boy named Cole comes and finds her.
Then Cole teaches her how to fight the dead walking around, and tries to keep her safe.
Pen gets the hang of it quickly and tries to keep him safe too.
With a world full of untrustworthy people, can pen find a way to trust again? Or will she find herself alone?
