Essence doesn't know her father, but she is curious to know. Her step-father is abusive towards her mother, but he never laid a finger on Essence. If Essence does wrong he takes it out on her mother. All Essence wants to do is to better her life and become something out of her self. She isn't insecure, but she wants to feel like someone. Not some girl who has to watch her mother get beat.
