The story is about Anna Petrova. She is 18 years old and lives with her parents and her older sisters in Mystic Falls. 

When she must fetch her sisters at a party on her birthday, she meets damon. Damon has recently moved with his brothers to Mystic Falls. Anna did not know before what love was because she had never met her. But this changes this evening, in the instant when she sees Damon for the first time.She falls in love at first sight with him and he seems to like her, too. But before she can learn more about him, their paths separate.

But one day she meets him again, but only to see how Katherine's bff caroline stretches her finger at him. Who knows Caroline, she knows always gets what she wants.
So Anna loses her hope and she thinks Damon has lost to Caroline. But it's not what it seems
