This is about a world where everything has to be perfect. At the age of twelve girls go to an auditioning room, where they get evaluated on how, pretty they are, how smart they are, how sporty they are, ect. Then a week later they get a letter and it tells them how long they have to live for. For boys the same happens apart from their thoughts appear above their heads for everybody to read.
