In a world quite different from our own, two species - the Shadows and the Angels - have been sworn enemies for centuries. In the year of 5045, the next great war is about to break out between the two. This war could tear the entire world apart, and it's definitely bound to tear Laura's world apart.
Laura is a human - a dying breed. She longs to change her species, but when she's kidnapped by the Shadow Royals and made their adopted daughter, she's burdened with many more problems than just being human.
One of these problems being the decision she has to make: be loyal to her new family and side with the Shadows, or be loyal to her best friend of five years, Ash - an Angel - and risk her life doing so.
However, it may turn out that her life is at risk whether she sides with the Shadows or not...
