Rain doesn't believe that there is anyone else out there in the world that is like her. She is a mermaid. She has survived through hiding this from her parents and has finally escaped their scrutiny. When she began avoiding water even though she was on the swim team, her parents suspected she was doing drugs. Although they made her take drugs test every week and they never were positive, they still didn't believe her. Because of this falling out, Rain decided to move far away from her parents. Her parents lived in North Carolina, so Rain thought that Florida would be nice. There was a lot of water for her to swim in, and if worst came to worst, she could just live in the water.

Connor has been Alpha of his pack for a few years now and he was still waiting for his mate. His pack was known as the most ruthless and strong pack in the country. Without a Luna, pretty soon the pack would go feral and lose their humanity. Connor has been thinking about making one of the girls he usually slept with in the neighboring packs his Luna, just to fill the position, but his wolf said he should wait. Their mate was close.
