Mayra Browne is an African American slave. She's lucky enough to have owners that don't beat her like the last ones, the Harper family. But that doesn't mean she doesn't work a lot. In fact, she goes above and beyond compared to her family and friends in hopes for freedom. 

John Dean is an 18 year old white boy, who's family owns a 6 acre plot in Richmond, Virginia. Girls swoon over him for his money and handsom looks. However he doesn't care about the women around him, only about himself. But when war breaks out, his selfishness turns into courage and bravery. 

At the brink of the war, Mayra acts as a male Union soldier to fight for her freedom, even if it means death. John fights with the Confederate soldiers. When unfortunate events take their course, John and Mayra's paths are crossed. In a situation of life and death, these two release the feeling is hatred to be replaced by love. 

In this series of the Civil War and love, promises are broken and lies add up to fill any remainder of hope. Will these star-crossed lovers even make it out of the war alive? If they do, their mixed race forbids them to be together. How far will they go?
