As a teenager, Valerie Terrance left a grower's community, the last of the dying townships, to live with her Aunty Rachel in Hamilton City, just so she could escape her absent father's grief after her mother died. What she found when she got there was an eccentric Aunty that she grew to cherish and a mega city full of people, all happy to toe the government line. But any line was easier to swallow than the line her Father had spoon fed her since she was a child, and that suited her just fine.

She found where she belonged with a job as a police officer and had a spacious inner city apartment with her gorgeous, hot-lawyer boyfriend living right next door. She'd been working for the Bureau of Alien Affairs ever since the Othshali'i arrived in Earth's atmosphere four years prior and her job working security for the only Othshali'i alien dignitary in the city gave her the job security and the prestige she'd always been after.

So what if she didn't really talk to her father who lead the growers community in Kauaeranga Valley. So what if the only food she could ever afford was the government sanctioned and highly processed food stuffs that tasted nothing like the produce she remembered eating as a child. So what if missing a payment on her mortgage would drastically affected her social standing, and so what if she had to give up everything she and her parents had ever stood for so she could live life as she wanted.

So what? It wasn't like anyone could change the government or anything.
