...Because life is not like a story. Because sometimes, the hero is really a villain in disguise. Because sometimes, the heroes are wrong, and the good guys don't win. Because sometimes, the bad guy gets the girl, and there's nobody left to rescue her because it is her hero who has suddenly become the villain. Because sometimes, things cannot be so easily defined as good or bad, as dark or light. Because sometimes, there's more to a story, more to a man, than what meets the eye, and the villain isn't the flat, one-dimensional, pure evil we perceive him to be. Because everyone in the protagonist, the hero, in his own story...

And sometimes, a twist of fate, a change in perspective, is all that is needed to reveal the truth... Or a jump in time.

Or, my take on what might have happened if Dooku - and the Seperatists - had been born a little later on, when the galaxy was more ready for their ideas. AU.
