"Amelia, why do you even want to become friends with this guy so badly?" "Because he's Easton Foster." "He won't become friends with you because you're only twelve years old; I probably wouldn't even be friends with you if I wasn't the same age." "I know." Amelia Nelson, a marching band flutist in her freshman year of high school with her eyes set on eventually becoming the valedictorian, is anything but the average 12-year-old. Skipping two grades, Amelia is often insulted for being twelve years old; however, she always manages to create a retort. Easton Foster is a 16-year-old sophomore on the James Madison High School football team who hopes to secure the role of team captain his junior year. A nonchalant football player with an excellent sense of humor, Amelia knows that a friendship between them could never occur. Amelia promised to remain focused on her studies, but when her biology teacher assigns Easton as her lab partner for the year, she suddenly desires to become friends with him. She knows attempting at becoming friends with Easton would be a distraction, yet she can't shake the idea of it every time she interacts with him. As Amelia hides her newfound platonic attraction toward Easton from her family, she faces the ultimate dilemma: What's more important-the future she's planned, or the unexpected connections that could change everything? She has to decide, and fast. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A coming-of-age dramedy novel exploring relatable high school challenges, familial relationships, identity, and unlikely friendships between characters with contrasting personalities.
