11 parts Ongoing MatureI had always been scared of the ocean. Of the way the waves crash against the rocks, how light could not reach its furthest depths. I especially did not like the way the ocean looked at night and how you can't see anything past the shoreline. There is only the dark and you. What I'm most scared of, however, is the way water does not let you go once it has you.
So why is it that I'm flirting with my fears now? I stand at the edge where sand and water meet. Watch the way it just barely reaches my toes before receding back, rinse and repeat. I wonder how quickly the current could snatch me up. I wonder how long it'll take for my lungs to fill. I wonder, I wonder, I wonder- all kinds of things and all kinds of ways. A feeling settles itself in my chest; tight and foreboding. I know what it means.
