Falling For Him

As much as she tries to ignore the new guy, she gets paired with him in a history project. She can't stand his ego and his overly confident self. "My name is-" in my head I'm going: Not Steuart, not Steuart, not Steuart- "Liam."
"Thank gosh," I mutter too loudly that Liam stops talking.
"Is something wrong?" he asks.
"Uh, um. No, sorry. Please, continue," I say.
"I'm Liam. I play basketball, I only read sports magazines unless it's for school, and I'm already enjoying this school," he explains smugly. Liam sits back down, his chair still very close to mine. I can't help but notice his attractive scent.
"Thank you, Liam," Mrs. N says. She introduces us to the project that Adrianna mentioned earlier this morning. "I will assign your partner." As Mrs. N explains the requirements for the project, I see Liam lean towards me from my peripheral vision.
"How ya doin'?" Liam whispers into my ear, the warmth of his breath lingering. "You've been all I can think about. You're just so-"
"Mister Mercer, since you and Miss Arlton seem to enjoy each other's company, why don't I make you two partners?" Mrs. N suggests.
"Oh, uh. Mrs. N, I don't-" I start to protest.
"That'd be great!" Liam exclaims. "Thank you!" Mrs. N calls out the next group and Liam wraps an arm around my shoulders, moving his body even closer to mine.
"This'll be great, yuh know? I get to learn all about you!" Liam says.
