We can thank Arizona for that discovery." --- In Rustavi, Georgia, Kevin Kooper and his unit are in charge of cleaning up PCs --plagued civilians--that are still running out of control in Russia. Life is good in Red Rover Unit for Kevin. In a world where the government feels like it's run more like The Purge meets 28 Days Later, there's not much else he can do but survive, and he can't afford to be picky about how he spends his downtime or who is or isn't waiting on him when (if) he ever goes home to Washington. What more could he want? Still, on a whim, he signs up for the 'Letters from Home' program. A way for soldiers to talk to someone, get care packages, when they have little to no one left in the states. It's through this that he's matched with Toby Fritz. And it's through Toby that Kevin starts thinking he's worth more than the words scribed across the back of his uniform jacket that read, "Property of the US Army- PC Control Unit". After Kevin's time overseas is up, he finds himself back in the states, potentially face to face with his pen pal. Writing those heartfelt, personal words through a letter, and saying them in person, are two incredibly different things. Not to mention, war has a habit of following weary soldiers home (in more ways than old scars and nightmares). And Kevin's figuring out that the field isn't the only place that can turn into a warzone. -- This story is entirely based on fictional characters and events. Any names of people are purely coincidence. These are original characters following an original plot. Trigger warnings in tags. This story hasn't been edited fully for spelling or grammar.

Everything started in 2036. The pollution was so bad that the end of the world was predicted to be right around the corner. As complete panic set in around the world, the rich and important people were all gathered and placed on giant spaceships with enough resources and room to house generations of human beings. Before they left though, the government leaders fired As a result, most of the human population died off and earth was a complete wasteland. The little that survived started building local communities and trying to survive in the destroyed excuse of a planet. On the disaster of a planet, creatures mutated and were born out of the nuclear chemicals; creating new species and monsters that hunted humans. While hundreds and hundreds of years passed, the monsters kept evolving and the people kept adapting while still trying to keep a sort of community. They didn't want to lose all of their humanity and become nothing more than animals that hunted the monsters: then they would truly be no better than the monsters themselves. So they stayed civil while still doing what it took to survive.

I grabbed my knife out of my boot and sliced it's throat. It stumbled back and came at me again. I poised the knife in my hand and forced it into its bloodshot eye. In an alternative universe, the tension between the Russians and Americans lasts much longer than through the 1980s. In fact, after years of experimenting, the Russian government has finally created young, living super soldiers. Their scientists have made breakthroughs in neurobiology, the structure of human DNA, and embryology that allows them to miraculously create several human traits together and then nurture and grow these artificial humans in an incubation chamber. Dozens of these experiments have failed over the last several decades, but there is finally a breakthrough in 2005. However, this breakthrough is a tragic end for the scientists who helped create and grow this artificial human. Waking up in the middle of the summer in a Russian laboratory, Nick breaths his first breath and starts his journey in this new world. He knows nothing of the language or the world around him, but he has help navigating with the help of another artificial human. Cursed with a violent start to his life, Nick and his friend must run from the Russian government across the globe just to survive. These two start their journey in Russia, manage to make it to France, and find their final destination the United States of America, which they understand is the home of the free and the brave. However, they learn reality is not always what it seems. Join Nick and Nikki as they seek to live a normal life in America, despite everything about them and the life they live being everything but normal.

It all happened in one day. The nuclear explosion. The gas spilling out of the nuclear plant and poisoning people. The gas moving over the grave yard and the dead popping out a couple minutes later. People eating others. It's so much. I don't know if I will be able to survive.

And the other doesn't even understand his own feelings. Although when an unfortunate event causes them to come together, how will their worlds treat them?
